Swiss Winter Wonderland: Your Ultimate Winter Travel Itinerary

Winter Wonderland: A Magical Trip to Switzerland (Winter 2023)
I had the incredible opportunity to explore the enchanting landscapes of Switzerland. Our journey began with a flight into the picturesque town of Interlaken, a gateway to the Swiss Alps, where we were greeted by breathtaking views and a cozy atmosphere.
GoldenPass Express to Montreux
From Interlaken, we hopped on the stunning GoldenPass Express, a scenic train ride that took us through some of Switzerland’s most captivating landscapes. The journey to Montreux was nothing short of magical, with snow-dusted mountains and charming villages dotting the route. Once we arrived, we checked into the luxurious Fairmont Le Montreux Palace, where we spent three nights indulging in comfort and elegance.
One of the absolute highlights of our time in Montreux was spending a few hours at the stunning Château de Chillon. Nestled on the shores of Lake Geneva, the castle's breathtaking views, rich history, and remarkable architecture left me in awe. Wandering through its storied halls felt like stepping back in time. After exploring the castle, I indulged in the local Christmas market right by the water. This enchanting market featured a whimsical flying Santa and offered stunning lake views during the day. The festive atmosphere, with its twinkling lights and delightful treats, made it the perfect place to soak in the holiday spirit while surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Swiss Alps.
Exploring Gruyères and Lausanne
During our stay in Montreux, we took day trips to the nearby towns of Gruyères and Lausanne. Gruyères, famous for its cheese, offered us a delightful experience as we wandered through its medieval streets, sampling local delicacies and visiting the Gruyères Castle. The Christmas markets in both towns were a highlight, with twinkling lights, artisanal crafts, and mouthwatering treats that captured the essence of the holiday season. I enjoyed some mulled wine and got to keep the cute Lausanne mug it came in. If you know me, you know I love a good souvenir.
Back to Interlaken and the Swiss Alps
After our stay in Montreux, we returned to Interlaken for a few more nights. Our adventures in the Swiss Alps were unforgettable! We took a trip to Wengen, where the views were simply breathtaking. We spent the day sledding down the mountains, relishing the thrill of gliding through the fresh powder. Lunch was a cozy affair with delicious pasta, and I enjoyed a spiked hot chocolate while watching skiers effortlessly glide over the slopes—an experience that felt surreal! This was one of the prettiest places I had ever been, and when I go back I will defiantly spend a few days here and go snowboarding.
Enchanting Lucerne
Next, we ventured to Lucerne, another gem of Switzerland. The beauty of the city was enhanced by its charming Christmas markets, where we spent hours strolling, shopping, and soaking in the festive spirit. With around 10-15 Christmas markets visited during our trip, we truly immersed ourselves in the holiday atmosphere across Lausanne, Lucerne, Geneva, Montreux, and Gruyères.
A Bittersweet Farewell in Geneva
Our Swiss adventure concluded in Geneva, where we spent our last moments exploring the city’s vibrant culture and stunning views of Lake Geneva. It was the perfect way to wrap up our trip, and as we boarded our flight home, I carried with me not just souvenirs but a heart full of memories. Switzerland in winter is truly a dream come true—a place where stunning landscapes, rich traditions, and the spirit of the holidays come together in perfect harmony. I can’t wait to return!
