There’s no better way to experience Scotland than by road—rolling green hills, ancient stone villages, misty lochs, and the ever-present magic of the Highlands. Here's a detailed day-by-day itinerary of our 7-day road trip through the Scottish countryside.


🚗 Day 1: Edinburgh to Pitlochry

Distance: ~71 miles (2 hours)

We began in Edinburgh, picking up our rental car early in the morning. Tip: pick a compact car for those narrow country roads and make sure it’s automatic if you're unfamiliar with manual gear shifting.

Stop en route:

  • Queensferry Crossing: Stop to admire views of the Forth Bridges.
  • The Hermitage (near Dunkeld): A short, magical woodland walk to a waterfall—perfect for stretching your legs.

Stay in Pitlochry:
